Frequently Asked Questions
Please read these FAQs before contacting us...
Q: I've found a gun I like from an FFL
in another state. How do I buy the gun through you?
A: Email us at ffl@dbgun.com to
let us know your intentions and the seller's info. We will need to
fax/email/send the seller a copy of our FFL license before they can
ship to us. You should make sure you meet the requirements below
(..."legal to buy"...). Then you will purchase the gun and arrange
shipment to us. We will need to know the tracking info so we can be
here to receive the gun when it arrives via UPS or FedEx. You must send that
if you have it.
We do NOT collect tax for states other than Florida--that is up to you or the seller. We are merely LEGALLY transferring the gun from the seller to you, the "middle-men" if you will... This chain-of-custody is required by the ATF who can inspect our records at any time.
We will let you know when the gun arrives and make an appointment for you to come in to fill out a 4473 form, have a background check done on you and pay the transfer fee. If the BGC is approved, and if you have a Concealed Weapons Permit or are buying a long gun (rifle or shotgun) you can leave with your firearm then. Otherwise there is a 3-business-day (M-F) wait to pick up your handgun. This is Florida law and can not be "expedited".
Q: How do I know if I am legal to buy a
gun in Florida?
A: You must be at least 21 years old. You must be a Florida resident with
unexpired, legal ID or Driver's License showing your current Florida address. You can not be
a Felon or have any Domestic-type charges against you--these things
WILL show up during the background check and will disqualify you. We recommend going to your
local police department to see if you are "OK" to buy a gun if you
are not sure of your status. To keep costs down, we charge a $10 fee
if you do not pass the background check... Visit this LINK for more
info on buying a gun in Florida.
Q: How do I
buy a gun from you?
A: Email us at ffl@dbgun.com to
let us know which gun you want. You will first have
to meet the requirements above (..."legal to buy"...), then come in
and look at the gun you want, pay for your purchase plus 6.5%
Volusia County sales tax, fill out a 4473 form and have a background check done on you.
The transfer fee is included in the purchase price.
If you have a Concealed Weapons Permit or are buying a long gun
(rifle or shotgun) you can leave with your gun then. Otherwise
there is a 3-business-day (M-F) wait to pick up your gun.
Q: How do I sell a gun or ammo to you?
A: You must be the legal owner or guardian of the gun. Contact us to
arrange a time for you to come in and for us to evaluate your gun(s)
and negotiate a price. We will check the Stolen Gun database of the
FDLE LINK and do not buy stolen firearms. A stolen gun should be
turned into the police. Ideally you will have paperwork from your
initial purchase to prove ownership.
PLEASE DO NOT BRING A LOADED GUN INTO THE BUILDING! We will be happy to unload it for you if you don't know how. Properly holstered, concealed, loaded weapons may be legally worn as long as they are not handled--they must be unloaded as soon as they are un-holstered.
We will be happy to buy leftover or surplus ammo and reloading components such as casings, bullets primers and powder from you. Value depends on many factors such as age, caliber, quantity, etc. We will also buy reloading equipment.
Q: How do I have a gun destroyed or
de-milled?
A: You must be the legal owner or guardian of the gun. Contact us to
arrange an appointment for you to come in and for us to evaluate your gun.
If you want it destroyed, we will give you a quote and possibly a
credit for re-sellible parts we will keep. The fee before parts credit
starts at $20 for most guns. The serial numbered receiver or frame
will be rendered permanently inoperable through cutting, torching
and/or crushing per ATF guidelines. The serial number will be recorded as "turned in"
for destruction and pictures/videos will be supplied to document
destruction. A "certificate" of destruction will also be issued. We
will retain possession and dispose of the destroyed receiver/frame.
If you want a gun "de-milled", we will evaluate as above. De-milling will convert the gun into a non-firing "display" with varying levels of operability and functionality. Instead of destroying the receiver/frame, we might weld the barrel chamber shut, remove the firing pin and weld the hole in the bolt or slide among other procedures. Depending on operations done, the receiver/frame might still be considered a "gun" even though it can not be fired...
We will also destroy a "bump-stock" for you to bring you into compliance with the ATF and Florida Law. $20 while you wait. You will retain possession of the destroyed bumpstock parts and can dispose of as you wish.
Q: How do I
buy a gun from a private party?
A: We cant legally advise you on this and there ARE risks buying
from a private party. As with many types of purchases the
transaction should take place in a public area with good lighting
and security. Also note that observers not involved in the sale may
think handling of firearms in public is "suspicious" and will call
the police. There is always a chance the gun is stolen unless the
seller has proof of ownership from where THEY bought it. You can
visit the FDLE Stolen Gun search at this LINK.
If satisified the gun is legit it is a good idea to check each other's IDs "just in case". A Florida CWP is even better! A bill of sale is also a good idea. Get a blank form HERE. There is no "Universal Background Check" here in Florida but knowing who you are buying from is a good way to "cover your butt".
If selling a gun to a private party the above applies. Know who you are selling to. You CAN legally ship a long or shot gun to a buyer in FL but not a pistol. Additionally, selling a gun to someone from out of state is technically "illegal" unless they are an FFL. We will be happy to help them ship the gun to an FFL in their state. Transfer fee of $20 applies as well as shipping and handling fees if we arrange shipping to their FFL.
